Taiwan is trying to accuse WHO of dereliction by falsely claiming that it had warned WHO on 31 December 2019 about human-to-human transmission.
Let's look at the email content released below.
"News resources today indicate that at least seven atypical pneumonia cases were reported in Wuhan, CHINA. Their health authorities replied to the media that the cases were believed not SARS; however the samples are still under examination, and cases have been isolated for treatment. I would greatly appreciate it if you have relevant information to share with us. Thank you very much in advance for your attention to this matter."
Taiwan had highlighted in its email content that it had stated that the keyword "isolated" would infer a human-to-human transmission. However, this is not true because a hospital will isolate a patient for treatment because the patient is highly vulnerable to other infections. There are many patients with severe illnesses (without contagious diseases) being isolated for treatments because the hospital doesn't want the patients to be infected by other bacteria and/or viruses in the hospital. Therefore, the keyword "isolated" doesn't mean that the 7 cases are infectious. The Wuhan hospital was just trying to ringfence the 7 patients so that external factors couldn't interfere with their treatments since there was no scientific evidence to show such human-to-human transmission. This was, after all, a new unknown virus and nobody had any experience in dealing with it in December 2019.
The Taiwanese email also showed that China didn't cover up its covid-19 outbreak because Taiwan managed to get information from China news media which Taiwan quoted in its email.
In conclusion, Taiwan didn't provide any warning about any human-to-human transmission on 31 Dec 2019 because it was just trying to solicit further information from the WHO. On the other hand, Taiwan had provided proof that China didn't cover up its covid-19 situation in the email.
We need to give thanks to Taiwan for helping China to clear its name. Hahaha!
