For one to be successful in any business, one has to focus on its core competencies. Wilmar is doing its investors a disservice by going into the property business in China even though it has partnered with local developers.
I would label Wilmar's latest move as wrong move at the wrong time when China is trying to cool down its property market. Wilmar should not try to outbid other developers when China tries to curb the property market.
I hope Wilmar won't pay a painful lesson in China.
