Latest updates on Covid mutations.

The new covid variant in the UK is called B117 and the mutated covid in Africa is called 501v2.  These 2 variants only share the same N501Y mutation in the spike protein but are classified as 2 different viruses.  The 501v2 is more infectious than B117 and both variants infect teens and young children more than the earlier variant which infects adults and elders.

The 501v2 variant is vastly different from the earlier covid and may render the existing vaccines ineffective.  Let's wait for the scientists to confirm this.
