The western vaccines such as Pfizer, Moderna and Astrazeneca don't take into account asymptomatic patients in their efficacy rates and also don't focus on a high-risk group such as medical staff.
Let me highlight 2 things here.
If you didn't have any symptoms but were tested positive for covid infection, the vaccine was considered effective in the clinical trial. Furthermore, the clinical trial patients were the general public whereby most of them were not exposed to the covid virus on a daily basis. Therefore, we couldn't determine whether the vaccine was really effective or the patients were simply not exposed to the virus and gave a false sense that the vaccine was effective.
These conditions were completely different from China vaccine clinical trial whereby asymptomatic patients were taken into account and the trial focused on a high-risk group (medical workers) who were exposed to the covid virus on a daily basis.
The western pharmaceutical companies used laxly standards to boost up their efficacy rates so that they could sell their drugs.
In conclusion, we could see a resurgence in covid cases despite the higher vaccination rates which we're seeing right now. In fact, some EU countries are going into lockdowns again despite more Europeans getting vaccinated.
